When I finally had enough money to buy a Nintendo, they were selling the super nintendo. I am so glad my parents were strict on this because now I know the value of a dollar... but man how I wanted those darn umbros....Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10325609744026316727noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2940256647589145002.post-30228188921639477902009-07-13T08:08:40.158-04:002009-07-13T08:08:40.158-04:00I too wanted those Umbro shorts. I got close one ...I too wanted those Umbro shorts. I got close one time.. There was a shoe store that was having a special - buy a pair of shoes, get an Umbro bag and a pair of Umbro shorts for $5. Well, I got the bag - which wasn't the "cool" bag and then got the shorts - but they weren't the Umbros that everyone else were wearing - they were like nylon shorts that had umbro printed on them - not stitched!! Not to mention, they were super duper short. I wore them a few times, but then due to dress code - wasn't allowed to wear them anymore b/c they were too short.

I also remember when my mom got me a pair of Guess jeans - they were from the 2nd hand store and I wore those things to death!

And, the free lunch. Me too. It started in 6th grade and went on till I graduated. I stopped eating lunch in the 9th grade b/c of it. They changed the system, so all the kids with free lunches didn't have to scan a card or anything..which in turn, let everyone know that your lunch was free...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2940256647589145002.post-57926268681936509472009-07-13T04:35:58.276-04:002009-07-13T04:35:58.276-04:00I'm back! Also, your childhood sounds very similar to mine except that Guess jeans were the in thing and I bought a pair, too big, for $12 at the local resale shop. I grew up in a ONE bedroom (4 room total) apartment with my dad, brother, and sometimes Aunt. My dad, brother, and I all slept on the fold out couch in the living room. I did not get free lunch but I think we could have, had my dad done something about it. I wouldn't trade growing up like that for ANYTHING! Makes me appreciate every little thing...and I have a very good suspicion that my kids will be FAR from spoiled...builds character :)Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12302767262148384106noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2940256647589145002.post-85914357985184640662009-07-13T00:03:16.717-04:002009-07-13T00:03:16.717-04:00Hey, childhood has so many memories, where do you ...Hey, childhood has so many memories, where do you begin?

The whole it's greener on the other side it so true. My 14-year old daughter wants everything she doesn't have. She's tall and slender and wishes she were shorter and more filled out. Like, SERIOUSLY, how does a person forget that?? Ok, so I was 7, but it didn't make it any less degrading. Particularly when I had to confess all to one of the teachers, and be given a pair of "lost property knickers" to wear(SERIOUSLY, who LOSES their knickers)

I get what you mean about SITS and comments. Its such a great community, and just a little bit of love goes a LOOOONG way!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend
(man, I've possibly written my longest note EV-ER)
xxKimmy @ kimmythingyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11618841750814941148noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2940256647589145002.post-24191047864216244452009-07-11T05:43:47.840-04:002009-07-11T05:43:47.840-04:00Jineen...so great.
I have to say the one sneaker/...Jineen...so great.

I have to say the one sneaker/one jellie combo thing is pretty genius. :)

Blogging has definitely been so theraputic (spelling.tired.sorry) for me. And like you am always amazed when I see people come over to read what I have to say. :)

Oh and 10 hours of sleep in one sitting. You lucky..you know :)

xoxoThe Ramblerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10409123245867533569noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2940256647589145002.post-29067296258115515752009-07-11T00:17:01.886-04:002009-07-11T00:17:01.886-04:00Jineen, I so wish I'd known you when you were ...Jineen, I so wish I'd known you when you were a kid! You sound like you were a little legend. I would totally have copied your one shoe/one jelly style.

And "not unlike jail" had me laughing out loud :)the girl with the pink teacuphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04899687576835455016noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2940256647589145002.post-24852438763823083122009-07-10T23:34:23.639-04:002009-07-10T23:34:23.639-04:00"not unlike jail. except we had construction ..."not unlike jail. except we had construction paper art on the walls, and we got to go home at the end of the day." - You are hilarious. LOL!
I remember umbro shorts! I wanted them too, but I wasn't allowed to have them because, according to my English immigrant father, sporty things were "not appropriate" for school. I wasn't even allowed to wear jeans until grade 6 because "only men who are building houses wear jeans."
The thing about the kid with the weird head is hilarious too. Pretty much everyone I thought had a crush on me in school turned out to be gay. Weird eh? I guess they were just nice to me and I wasn't used to that from straight boys! LOL.
Glad you had such a wonderful day! Sounds perfect to me too!Jhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16708887529684669862noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2940256647589145002.post-86724785670145651812009-07-10T21:41:16.402-04:002009-07-10T21:41:16.402-04:00I think about my childhood when some specific spar...I think about my childhood when some specific sparks a memory about it.

And I can't believe how much I have loved blogging.Kristina P.https://www.blogger.com/profile/16144488639100871226noreply@blogger.com
